The Indian Air Force will commence the application process for the selection of Commissioned Officers in the Flying and Ground Duty branches. The application process will begin on 30th May, 2024 and extend until 28th June, 2024. Candidates will be chosen through the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). There are a total of 304 vacancies available for various positions.

Eligibility criteria for different posts are as follows-:

Flying Branch-:
  • Age: Candidates must be between 20 and 24 years old at the time of course commencement.
  • Education Qualification: Candidates must have completed a three-year graduate course in any discipline from a recognized university. They should also have studied mathematics and physics at the 10+2 level, or hold a four-year degree in B.E/B.Tech.
Ground Duty (Technical) Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics & Mechanical)-:
  • Age: Candidates must be between 20 and 26 years old at the time of course commencement.
  • Education Qualification: Candidates should have a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and physics at the 10+2 level, along with a four-year degree in B.E/B.Tech from a recognized university. Alternatively, they can have a minimum of 60% marks in section A and Section B examination of Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India.
Ground Duty (Non-Technical)-:
  • Age: Candidates must be between 20 and 26 years old at the time of course commencement.

The education qualifications required for different branches are as follows-:
Weapons System Branch-:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and physics at 10+2 level.
  • They should also have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in any discipline (three-year course), or a minimum of 60% marks in B.E/B.Tech (four-year course).
Administration Branch-:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and physics at 10+2 level.
  • They should also have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in any discipline (three-year course), or a minimum of 60% marks in section A and B examination of Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India.
Logistics Branch-:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and physics at 10+2 level.
  • They should also have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in any discipline (three-year course), or a minimum of 60% marks in section A and B examination of Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India.
Accounts Branch-:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and physics at 10+2 level.
  • They should also have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in the following disciplines: B.Com. degree (three-year course), Bachelor of Business Administration/Management Studies/Business Studies with specialization in Finance, qualified CA/CMA/CS/CFA, or B.Sc. with specialization in Finance.
For the Education Branch, the following qualifications are required-:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in 10+2 in any discipline.
  • They should also have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in any discipline (three-year course).
  • Candidates should also have a minimum of 50% marks in post-graduation from a recognized university in any discipline, including PG courses without permission to exit and lateral entry.
For the Meteorology Branch, the following qualifications are required-:
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 60% marks in mathematics and physics at the 10+2 level.
  • Alternatively, they can have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in Engineering or technology in the following streams-: 
    • Communication Engineering,
    • Computer Engineering/Technology,
    • Computer Engineering and Application,
    • Computer Science and Engineering/Technology,
    • Electrical and Computer Engineering,
    • Electrical and Electronics Engineering,
    • Electronics Engineering/Technology,
    • Electronics Science and Engineering,
    • Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering,
    • Electronics and
    • Computer Science, Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering,
    • Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering (Microwave),
    • Electronics Communication and
    • Instrumentation Engineering,
    • Information Technology, or
    • Mechanical Engineering.
For the NCC Special Entry, the following qualifications are required-:
  • Candidates must have a valid NCC “Air” Wing ‘C’ Certificate.
  • They should also have a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics and physics at the 10+2 level.
  • Alternatively, they can have a minimum of 60% marks in graduation from a recognized university in any discipline (three-year course),
  • or a minimum of 60% marks in B.E/B.Tech from a recognized university (four-year course),
  • or a minimum of 60% marks in section A and B examination of Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India.

There are several vacancies available in the Indian Air Force as per the posts. The details are as follows-:
Flying Branch-:
  • For men, there are 18 vacancies available.
  • For women, there are 11 vacancies available.
Ground Duty (Technical)-:
  • Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics): For men 88 and for women 23.
  • Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical): For men 36 and for women 09.
Ground Duty (NON-Technical)-:
  • Weapons System Branch: For men 14 and for women 3.
  • Administration Branch: For men 43 and for women 11.
  • Logistics Branch: For men 13 and for women 4.
  • Accounts Branch: For men 10 and for women 2.
  • Education Branch: For men 7 and for women 2.
  • Meteorology Branch: For men 8 and for women 2.
NCC Special Entry-:
  • 10% seats out of CDSE vacancies for PC and 10% seats out of AFCAT vacancies for SSC.
The selection process for the Indian Air Force is primarily divided into the following stages-:
  • 1. AFCAT Written Exam-: Candidates have to appear for the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) written exam. This exam assesses the candidates’ knowledge in various subjects such as English, General Awareness, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning.
  • 2. AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) Testing-: Candidates who qualify the AFCAT written exam are called for the AFSB testing. This stage includes various tests such as Officer Intelligence Rating Test, Psychological Tests, Group Tests, and Personal Interview. These tests evaluate the candidate’s aptitude, personality, and suitability for a career in the Air Force.
  • 3. Document Verification-: After clearing the AFSB testing, candidates need to go through the document verification process. They need to submit all the required documents and certificates to validate their eligibility and personal information.
  • 4. Medical Examination-: The final stage of the selection process is the medical examination. Candidates undergo a thorough medical check-up to ensure they meet the medical standards set by the Indian Air Force. This examination includes a physical examination, medical tests, and assessments to determine the candidate’s medical fitness for the service.
  • Candidates who successfully complete all these stages and meet the eligibility criteria are considered for the final selection in the Indian Air Force.
